We ate at MAZA one of their first nights they moved to the new location and I have been singing their praises to anyone who will listen, I had one of the best, most satisfying meals I have ever eaten there. We had the Grape Leaves filled with Lamb and Lamb Kebobs and both were excellent. The lamb was mild and the seasoning was delicious. My favorite dish was the real Lebanese Tabbouleh salad. I have been making Tabbouleh salad for years or at least I thought I was making Tabbouleh salad. I really got schooled on good Tabbouleh salad. My version was always heavy on the wheat bulgar with parsley as an additive. MAZA's tabbouleh salad is authentic Lebanaee Tabbouleh which is heavy on the parsley with wheat bulgar as an added ingredient. It was fresh and delicious and perfectly spiced. My only complaint was there was not enough. Next time I am getting my own dish and I am not sharing it. I had a glass of wine which was the house Shirraz. This was my first time drinking a Shirraz and I found it to be perfect. It was smooth and reminded me of a very good Greek wine. The night we were there the service was very good, the decor is warm and inviting and the owner was friendly and entertaining He regaled us with a story or two and made us feel welccome and at home. I am looking forward to our next visit this weekend. We are taking friends from the Chicago area and some friends from W. Laf., too. I am looking forward to trying some more of the dishes on the menu. I hear they are adding many more selections in the near future.

I noticed there was no reviews there should be a good reason why not. I would give them no stars if I could. The service was terrible. The food was cold. The salad was brown and old. the owner seems not to care when you complained about the food or service.

On first try, I'd say this is a great addition to the Sagamore Parkway area. My husband and I stopped in after work for dinner. We were surprised that the atmosphere leaned a little more formal, as it doesn't look like much from the outside. The other diners ranged from families to couples to business dinners- most were a little dressier than your average area restaurant. Seems like this could be a good spot for an easy-going special occasion dinner. The menu was expansive, although it leans Greek, there were definitely Italian, french, and Spanish dishes on offer. I was initially planning to order the grape leaves and the mussels appetizers as my main, but the salmon special sounded too good to pass up. In the end I was pleased with my choice- the salmon was well cooked and served on top of some kind of zucchini fritter. It was topped by a lemon-creme sauce (not too heavy) and asparagus. It was a perfect portion size and an overall great dish. My husband ordered a cheese ravioli primavera. The ravioli itself was nothing special, but the red sauce it was served with was great and the vegetables were fresh and plentiful. Both entrees came with nice, simple salads, and bread was served with an olive oil/parmesan/basil dip. I also had a glass of wine- a cabernet sauvignon- generously poured. Overall a nice dinner and good service- although be prepared for slightly higher bill- most entrees in the $15-20 range. The place is small and the decor is nothing special, but you can tell they are making an effort and it is paying off. I will be back!

Went here for brunch recently and had a bit of a mixed experience. The food was quite tasty but the service left something to be desired. My SO and I were meeting a friend and arrived a little early so we asked for a table. The dining room was about a third full and we asked for a booth. The hostess sat us at a booth with two settings and grabbed another setting from the next table and plunked it down next to me and walked away without arranging it or saying a single word. We waited for about 15 minutes without being greeted by any waiter or having any drink order taken. There was a couple that got sat down near us and were immediately greeted and had their waters filled. Seemed odd, especially since they were not that busy and I could see the waiters chatting in the kitchen. We finally got some attention right as our friend arrived and placed our drink orders. I got a large oj and when it arrived it was in a very small glass. I asked the waiter if that really was a large and he just glared at me and said yes, very curtly. I was a little taken aback because I couldn't imagine what small was actually like if that was a large (a shot glass of oj maybe?). Again I glanced over at another table a while later and saw much larger glasses of oj in front of them. Again, odd. The food arrived and was quite delicious. We had the tel aviv eggs Benedict (with smoked salmon and spinach) and the Egyptian breakfast. We all enjoyed the food but the waiter came by twice to refill the boys' coffee and I had to ask him at the very end of the meal to refill our empty water glasses which got me another weird look. I know some of these criticisms may seem a bit like nitpicking, but it is no fun to be at a restaurant and feel like you are being an inconvenience to the staff or that you are unwelcome. I would hesitantly give this restaurant another shot because the food was yummy, but I was definitely frustrated by the end of the meal.

Very poor customer service Staff was good - running around to meet needs The Owner has BAD attitute - seems to be Racist - when we were there he told us "you are not standing on the streets to eat falafel - you are in a restuarant - have you ever been to one ?" We will l NEVER COME BACK here - even if food is good - Actually Food was quite mediocere Very ARROGANT owner / manager (old man)

My SO and I come here at least a few times a month for Sunday brunch. The menu can be intimidating at first but we've never had anything we didn't like. We've always had great service and the coffee is really delicious. Make sure you try the breakfast side potatoes!

Really good restaurant!! The food is delicious, the service is formidable, and the wine selection is great!! This place is not cheap but you won't mind paying the check after enjoying the great food.... I really liked how the owner came to our table to suggest a different wine since the one I ordered was not longer available. The whole meal from appetizer to dessert was top notch quality. The only reason why I am not giving 5 stars is because the ambient could be better specially if you are coming there for a romantic evening. The light should be dimmer and maybe some candles in the table would be a nice touch. Other than the ambient this restaurant is now on my local favorites list without a doubt.

I'm dying to find a good restaurant in West Lafayette. I ate here with colleagues. The appetizers started off well, and I thought-- "Well, despite the cheesy decor, maybe this will be the place." But I was quickly brought back to sordid reality with my entree-- a very simple penne pasta dish. I could tell it was atrociously overcooked before they even set it down in front of me. The noodles were yellow and flaccid. They had turned to complete, water-logged mush. I don't know how in the world you overcook pasta to that degree in a competent kitchen. I was with colleagues and didn't want to make a fuss. So I picked at this crap and sadly realized that I can't come back to this place if this is the kind of food they'd put on the table. Still looking for my place . . .

This place was very reasonably priced and the food was absolutely perfect for brunch.

Ate here on Friday, Jan 27. Food was pretty good but the service was absolutely horrible. Not unpleasant or impolite, just unimaginably slow. Took 30 minutes to get bread and have our order taken. The appetizers arrived more than an hour after we did. Food did not come out in order. Was another 30 minutes before the last of the entrees arrived. That said, the food was pretty good and fairly priced. The manager/owner came over and gave us free glasses of a very nice wine. He felt bad that we were unhappy about the slowness, but he was clearly unable and unwilling to fix it. He was happy to be so busy. I hope he's that happy 6 months from now. The young man waiting on us was never rude, just clearly overmatched. I doubt he'd have been on top of it at the best of times, and this was not the best of times. I was there with a group, otherwise I'd have left after the first 30 minutes. I wanted to tell the people waiting in line to run away and get something to eat in the next hour. I think the staff was just overwhelmed by the crowd, which suggests people have been having pretty good experiences. I can see why: food was tasty and reasonable. But they need to get a handle on the service or they will be victims of their own success. I surely will not return for some time. Maybe service will get better by then or maybe Maza will be gone. At any rate, if you are eating there soon, try a weeknight. Maza isn't ready for Friday yet.

Had lunch here a few days ago. Nice dining room. Food was very good. Reasonably priced for the portions. Both of us had a pasta dish and could only eat half - so we took the rest home. Love the coffee! Would love to bring the Martini Council here if they had a bar or bartender. Wine selection looks decent, though. Will be back to try dinner.

Ate here with friends on the night of the January blizzard -- the place was packed & we had about a 45-minute wait. The dining area is cozy & vaguely "Tuscan"-feeling in decor (y'know, warm reds & yellows); we expected they'd have a bar area but there was none. After being seated we began to understand the real reason for the wait: new restaurant blues. Although the staff was upbeat, the lack of coordination between the floor & the kitchen showed. Anyhow, with the wind and snow swirling unabated outside, we were in no hurry to leave & settled in to enjoy the wine and our friends. We tried the lentil soup and found it to be a savory and spice-forward treat. A cup alone is quite filling and felt good on that cold winter's night. Our friends ordered the walnut spread and two other small plates to share; I got the grilled fish Lebanese-style and my wife ordered chicken kebabs. There was some inexplicable delay between bringing out the tapas and our entrees, but nothing unmanageable. Everything tasted good, but not exceptional. My fish was fresh and cooked perfectly, but the rice pilaf accompaniment was bland. The chicken kebabs were also nicely done, and the side of couscous and broiled veggies was a much better partner. All in all, once they work out the service hiccups, Maza should be a nice place to take your significant other for dinner and drinks -- something WL needs more of.

The food is still good, but unless you want to be treated rudely, do not go with a large group.

It was our first time. Both me n my roomie were hungry and wanted a decent meal. Saw the menu as soon as we entered, we were greeted and seated per protocol. From here, started the problem. Manager came to take order and we asked more time. He never came but sent new waitresses who have no clue of the menu and finally took the order at compromise. She came back 20mins later with an excuse that order didn't go through asking us for 25 more mins with the cook out of kitchen. It was the most terrible experience for a quality restaurant to be sl rude. When met manager outside and told the issue he was rude to say 'sorry' but insisted to come back for free dinner. For now 1 star and if the manager keeps up his word will change the review.

Great Mediterranean cuisine. Decently authentic for Lafayette. Excellent service and quiet nice ambiance! Try the grape leaves and the grilled meat. Definitely coming back !

My wife, mother, and I ate lunch here and really enjoyed our meals. I had the kabab combo, which allows you to make a selection from meat and sides. The chicken was tender and nicely marinated. They each had a fresh mozzarella panini, which was made with great bread, pesto, peppers, and cheese. Service was very friendly, including the owner recommending from the menu. I look forward to returning.

I have dined w/ 9 different people here and recommended it to 3 others and we have ALL come away thoroughly impressed, even the kids. Most people are scared away by it being called a Mediterranean restaurant, but it is much much more! It has steaks, pasta (the spaghetti is the best I have), seafood and much more. Every meal I have tasted has been fantastic. Sunday brunches are the best in town. I have found my new favorite in the Lafayette area!

Last night was my second time dining at Maza, and I cannot figure out why it took us so long to go back! Most likely that has to do with its rather obscure location, tucked into Chauncey Hill Mall. You see the signs for Hookah in the adjacent, connected location, but the sign for Maza is pretty much unnoticed unless you are walking right next to it. It looks to be a very upscale dining environment with deep-red walls and perfectly manicured table settings. However, I got the impression that they are perfectly accustomed to accommodating both casual students who drop in as well as more formal parties. We were greeted by our waiter as we walked in, and he indicated we could sit wherever we liked. He brought us the menus, and we picked a couple of the Hot Tapas items. I was pretty sure we had tried the Baked Goat Cheese when we were there before, but my husband insisted we hadn't. He recognized it when the dish was brought to the table, however. We weren't too terribly disappointed with having to eat it again. ;-) It comes in a spicy marinara sauce, but I found it to be a fairly mild "spicy". It comes with some bread on the side, but it was good that we had the bread basket to draw from as well. We also ordered the Sambousek, which we both thoroughly enjoyed. I especially like how the menu lists which region of the world the food items are from - the Sambousek is from Lebanon and the Baked Goat Cheese was from Spain. We had kept our menus in case we wanted to order additional tapas, but we found ourselves plenty full at this point. Although we did decide to spring for dessert. The Bread Pudding was fantastic - the maple syrup it is covered in is divine. We were both impressed. The dessert we had had there before had been rather disappointing - I can't remember what it was called but I believe it is the first item on the dessert menu and definitely the most exotic-sounding dessert item. There was something odd about the taste - at the end of that visit, the best way we could describe it was "it tasted like the smell of perfume". Odd. But it could likely just be our American taste buds! All in all, a wonderful dining experience with a fair amount of vegetarian options - at least as far as the tapas went; the entrees were pretty limited in this regard.

Yes, the one-room layout is different and can feel like a fishbowl, and some of the decor is a little cheesy, but the food is consistently outstanding and the service is top-notch. I would recommend any of the seafood dishes. The branzino, which is offered seasonally, is one of my favorites, but they also prepare salmon, shellfish, and other seafood extremely well. Fresh, light and deliciously seasoned. A good wine selection too. Very happy to have MAZA in the area. Not sure how to interpret someone's one-off bad meal - this is a place that you can tell cares about quality and professionalism, so I have to think that a bad experience is an anomaly.

Had Sunday brunch here: Ordered the Beef kefta kebab. The kebab came with rice which was quite good and also hummus. The salad was not worth mentioning as it did not have any dressing on it/bland taste.. The hummus was alright- the hummus served at Blue Nile is still better, however there was no bread served to go with the hummus. The kefta was quite good and tasted just about right. Now to the service, my waiter- an Asian American guy was not too friendly but that didn't bother me too much. However what really ticked me off was when he gave me by bill once I was done with the main course without asking me whether I wanted dessert.. Who does this?? He should have asked me whether I was ready for my bill or wanted to order some dessert or anything. Not sure about returning here. Price wise its ok considering its a more formal place.

We had both breakfast and dinner here. Amazing food.....fresh all Mediterranean cuisine. Good wine list. A 5 min drive from campus, Make reservations for the big Purdue weekends. You will not be disappointed!

The food was good. You could tell the Chef truly cared about his work. The wine was moderately priced. But the staff was poorly trained for the price of the restaurant. The front end was being ran by two college kids that new nothing about the wine selection. The restaurant was out of three or four items on the menu. For $85.00 for two people I was expecting a little more!

Lizz and I had heard that Maza shut down their campus restaurant/hookah bar combination location and moved to a restaurant-only location in West Lafayette, so we'd planned to give it a try "someday." So, as often happens, we were trying to decide on a place to go to have a small-nosh and a libation, and the decision was made to give the "new Maza" a try. The decor is fairly nice - dark, rich colors. Comfy enough booths/tables. Low lights. Fairly expected for a place like this. The wine selection is decent - but they need to add taste notes/descriptions to their by-the-glass section, instead of having them only for the bottle-only section. The menu is pretty much the same as pre-move. We decided on steamed mussels and they arrived promptly. The mussels themselves were huge - much larger than most, and the simple white wine/olive oil/herbs sauce added to the yumminess of the mussels. We didn't try anything else, as Lizz is wheat/gluten-sensitive - and we were really only looking for a tiny nosh anyway. There are perhaps 3-4 options for wheat-avoiders on the menu - not bad I suppose for a middle-eastern place. All in all, a good experience, and we'll probably be back.

Amazing! The saganaki for an appetizer (kesseri cheese set on fire), tuna ammoglio for an entree and ashta bil asil for dessert...and the Pom frittes are ridiculously delicious!!! Go here.

MAZA provides creative Mediterranean dishes served in a comfortable atmosphere. The price is very reasonable, considering the diverse ingredients and training of their chefs. Try finding this food for under$30 anywhere else. No question, this is the best place around for hosting anyone from out of town, but also changes specials nightly to keep us locals interested.

Quiet, pretty ambience. good restaurant for a leisurely date. I've been there multiple times and loved everything I've tried! They have an amazing chef! The hummus, baba ghanoush, fried calamari, red lentil soup, the kebobs, quinoa salad, lasagna! All of it! Highly recommend it for all the amazing food!

By far this is the best restaurant in the Lafayette area! I am a picky person when it comes to my food and wine and Maza has the best of both worlds. Fantastic selection of mediterranean and Italian dishes. Try the paella, it's the best I've ever had! It's not an easy or cheap dish to make properly either, Maza does it right! Love their selection of wines too, whether you just want a nice glass or a special bottle they have a lot of nice options. I live in Indianapolis but stop at Maza when I'm in Lafayette for business, if this place was in Indy it would be packed every single day. Perhaps Maza can open a second location???

We gave them a try again for dinner this time. The food was excellent and the kitchen very flexible with our orders. The service was improved over last time but still seemed a bit off. Great atmosphere and food was out in a timely matter

Amazing brunch that until recently I had no knowledge of its existance (how!?) I can't speak for the quality of their regular food since I've never been during normal hours, but it is supposed to be mediterranean. The brunch itself is a fairly standard, but delicious, brunch offering. I had an egg benedict and I can safely say it was the best egg benedict I've had from all the brunch places that are around the Lafayette area. While I wouldn't call the restaurant fancy, it does seem to classify itself as one of the nicer places around, so expect a bit higher prices. Because we aren't swimming in great brunch places, obviously it was a bit packed and our server was kind of flustered and made some mistakes. Still, she was friendly and apologetic and no harm was done.

Once MAZA had moved further into West Lafayette and discontinued offering hookah (sadness...) Jon C. and I wanted to give it another try. The decor is upscale, and a little bit cold feeling to me. Upscale stuff can hit me that way sometimes unless they're trying to make it more 'folksy'. Their wine menu offers extremely detailed descriptions for their bottles, but nothing but the name for their single-glass offerings. I was a bit disappointed by this, as I'm not always going to want to split a bottle with Jon C, as we must actually be able to get home safely ;) We studied the menu. My food sensitivities are such that I don't actually expect to go out to eat and have a clear cut choice as to what I can have. But! Mussels! No wheat/low fat/no dairy/no unfermented soy/no nightshades/no rice/starch! And oh goodness were they good! Big, as big as your head - well not really, maybe as big as a Darci doll from the 70's head though. Tasty! It shows what you can do with some white wine, a little onion/garlic and a bit of broth! When I feel like getting splurgy with calories, I think we'll certainly try the Paella. =) The steak would usually be a thought, but we have a lot of grass fed beef in our freezer and I do prefer the taste of it. Though there's not a lot on the menu *I* can indulge in, other than the wine!, I appreciate the variety of foods they offer. Most wheat-eating varieties of people - vegetarian, omnivorous and, maybe, vegan could find something enjoyable to eat here. I miss the shisha / noshing experience so I did go to 3 stars from 4. I understand why he doesn't offer it anymore, I just like the experience of hookah and small nosh/drinks. =)

We dined at Maza last night for the first time since they relocated. I'm very happy we made a reservation, as they had a wait otherwise. The decor is nice, and the place is small without being too tight. Service was also quite good. We ordered a bottle of Lebanese wine, which was fantastic. You can either get all tapas style appetizers or enjoy one of their entrees. They locally source their meat, which I really appreciate. Had the sambousek for an appetizer which was quite light and good. My wife had the Armenian chicken, which came with peppers and rice and was outstanding. It's a simple dish and was perfectly seasoned. I had the lamb shank with potatoes and rice which was also wonderful. I appreciate the food is simple, not smothered in sauces, and very well cooked. Overall a great meal, and my new favorite upscale restaurant in the area.

Came here to eat after a recruiting event. The food was absolutely amazing. I was expecting slow service from the reviews, but no complaints. It's rare that you get flavors so well balanced as here. My recruiting buddy and I , we have travelled a lot, were so impressed a place like this exists, especially in West Lafayette. Very impressed.

We went for a leisurely lunch. The gazpacho was tasty, and our salads were refreshing. I loved the lemon-sumac dressing on my fattouche salad. So unique! I even tried the eashta bil asal for dessert and was happy to have something adventurous. Slow service was good today, but might be frustrating later.

Maza isn't so good. The cuisine is far from excellent. The decor and ambiance is poor. They appear to be going for an upscale restaurant but they are far from delivering on that. It has a very strip mally feel to it. sort of a like a wendy's but with white table cloths. For starters, we got the fries prepared in duck fat. doesn't seem very mediterranean but seems tasty. they were pretty good but a little too greasy. they were clearly fried in oil that was too cold. The fries were served plain. When I asked for ketchup, I was given a stern look and told that that was not recommended. so i asked for mayo, also not recommended. the server at last said he might be able to get us some garlic aioli. This was just weird. I've been to michelin star restaurants that serve ketchup with their fries. Surely, the gentleman (or some similar gentleman) across the room in the hooded sweatshirt, generously cut blue jeans and white sneakers has asked for ketchup. For the meal, my wife got a kabobish type item. This was reasonably tasty. It was the sort of item i would expect to pay $7.50 for at a mediterranean cafe. I got the fish special which was salmon with an olive jalapeño topping. a bit of an odd mix but it was okay. Overall, a decent meal but certainly not worth the price. The experience was strange and disappointing given the positive reviews i'd read.

The place is great! if you enjoy middle eastern food and don't want to be disappointed try MAZA. We had lunch there, the soup was authentic, the skewers were very tasty and the salad was very fresh! We have eaten in some of the best middle eastern restaurants in NYC and Washington DC and MAZA is just as good!

I've returned and things are still the same...good and interesting food and only 1 wait person for 10-12 tables so service was slow and not very attentive at lunch. I've never been for dinner so I don't know if they add more servers. If you go at lunch, expect to have a leisurely meal.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
